Random foraging and perceived randomness

چکیده
Abstract Research in evolutionary ecology on random foraging seems to ignore the possibility that some is an adaptation not environmental randomness, but what Wimsatt called “perceived randomness”. This occurs when features are unpredictable, whether physically or not. Mere perceived randomness may occur, for example, due effects of climate change certain kinds static landscape variation. I argue important mathematical model concerning doesn’t depend despite contrary remarks by researchers. use computer simulations illustrate idea mere randomness.

Relatively random: context effects on perceived randomness and predicted outcomes.
This article concerns the effect of context on people's judgments about sequences of chance outcomes. In Experiment 1, participants judged whether sequences were produced by random, mechanical processes (such as a roulette wheel) or skilled human action (such as basketball shots). Sequences with lower alternation rates were judged more likely to result from human action. However, this effect wa...

We consider a communication method, where the sender encodes n classical bits into 1 qubit and sends it to the receiver who performs a certain measurement depending on which of the initial bits must be recovered. This procedure is called n p 7→ 1 quantum random access code (QRAC) where p > 1/2 is its success probability. It is known that 2 0.85 7−→ 1 and 3 0.79 7−→ 1 QRACs (with no classical co...
متن کاملDecreasing the Randomness of Random Forests
The Random Forest algorithm is an ensemble technique that can achieve high accuracy on classification and regression with minimal tuning of parameters. This paper analyzes the effectiveness of the Random Forest classification algorithm under decreasing randomness in the bootstrap sampling procedure, in increasing tournament size, and in tournament participant selection.

Our aim is to experimentally study the possibility of distinguishing between quantum sources of randomness—recently proved to be theoretically incomputable—and some well-known computable sources of pseudo-randomness. Incomputability is a necessary, but not sufficient “symptom” of “true randomness.” We base our experimental approach on algorithmic information theory which provides characterizati...

The concept of provable cryptographic security for pseudo-random number generators that was introduced by Schnorr is investigated and extended. The cryptanalyst is assumed to have in nite computational resources and hence the security of the generators does not rely on any unproved hypothesis about the di culty of solving a certain problem, but rather relies on the assumption that the number of...
